Wisdom

I was talking to some friends of mine and the topic of 'gray hair' came up. (Yeah,we're such a fun crowd, aren't we?) I said that according to some tribes gray hair was a sign of wisdom and it was one (more) reason to respect your elders. I mentioned that I didn't know if I would dye my hair if it started to get gray.

"What do you mean?" - a friend asked. "Don't you color it already?"

Wwwhhhat?!?! I thought you could always tell when hair has been colored...it doesn't always look so natural...does it?

Does my hair color look fake unnatural in any way? hm....A few months ago, I tried out a mousse so that my hair would have a plum shade of shine for a few days...and after waiting 30 minutes before washing it out I finally had a look in the mirror and it looked exactly the same dark (black) color. I'm not doing that anymore.

So there you have it: I have been blessed by genetics. One more myth busted, Fabian doesn't wear contact lenses and up until now, I have never dyed my hair (although I have always liked the color blue!)

Happy 'Thirty-fourth month', Fabi!

"Quiero comer con mis amigos!" (I want to eat with my friends!) This is what Fabi says now about going to his playgroup. This year he went from not crying, to just sighing with a look of resignation and then to actually looking forward to go and play with his friends. I am enjoying those 6 hours a week by myself more than ever!

A few other favorite phrases:

"No quiero cortar mi pelo!" (I don't want to cut my hair! - See picture above!)

"This is mine!" / "Das ist meine!" (They sound the same, but I think he says it in English, not in German).

"Quiero Shu-Khan!" (MasalaDad's favorite phrase, which means he gets to play a song video of the famous Indian actor for Fabi.)

"I love you!" (He says that to family members over the phone -- very cute!)

Fabi wears shoe size 24/25 and clothes size 98.

He's good at cleaning up and doesn't like anything dirty or messy. (I'm told this is just a phase and that -unfortunately- it will go away). A few days ago MasalaDad was enjoying rice and dal in the typical Indian style, eating it with his hand. Fabi was appalled by this and kept telling his Dad to eat with a fork so that his hands didn't get dirty :)

Whenever we go to a gathering with a group of people, Fabi will be very clingy and won't want to play with other kids. It takes some time to warm up and by the time the meeting/party is over he doesn't want to go. He makes friends with children or grown-ups easily (once he was warmed up) and admires the bigger kids.

Fabian enjoys doing things "all by himself" now, but I always end up convincing him I can help him (to finish things up or get them done faster!)

I got myself new batteries!

Thanks to all of my friends and readers who have told me they miss reading me: from the ones who delicately pointed out that I hadn't updated my blog for a while (Hi, Sopan & Priya!), to the ones who boldly asked why was I being lazy (Thanks, Rong!) or asked me to get in gear and comment already (Thanks, Liza!...Ya -por fin- me puse las pilas!)

I hearby declare my blogging break over!

HAPPY 2008!

Here at the Masala Family we had a nice Christmas and New Year's celebrations. I will post a video with a recap of our holidays.

2007 was an interesting year for us. It was a year of adapting in Erlangen,Germany -as a family; discovering new friends, getting in touch with old ones and learning to value the things we have, especially our good health.

I enjoyed this flashback, as I discovered that this New Year's resolutions are not so different from the ones I made a couple of years ago!

How about you? How are you doing? I've missed you too!

P.S. Eventhough I did take a break from blogging, I've been uploading pictures in my Flickr album.
