To answer a common question:

"What do you eat in Costa Rica?"

Here's a picture of my lunch:

The main dish is usually some kind of meat; in this case it's smoked ham, but it can also be beef steak, chicken or fish. There are different types of salads and other side dishes include several kinds of vegetables. The fried banana ('plantain'), the black beans and the rice is practically a 'must' in a Costa Rican meal.

This picture doesn't show a 'Costa Rican Tortilla', which can be compared to the 'Indian Chapati', but made of corn flour. Meals usually include a 'fresco', which is a drink made of fruits, sugar and water. (I also like iced-tea.)

Food can have such a cultural influence! During my recent flight from Bombay to Milan I was asked if I wanted a 'vegetarian or a strictly-vegetarian meal'. But I knew I was closer to home when in a later flight I was asked: 'chicken or fish'!...

Ya Mari, the food looks really nice, and i guess at ur part of the world eating corn is more common than wheat,
do u know that in north india with a special veg made with green mustard leaves, we also make chapatis of corn and its supposed to be a speciality of Punjab, the veg is called Sarsoon ka saag and the chapati makki ki roti :-)
(Sarsoon is mustard and makki is corn)

Shweta: The menu differs for the rest of the central and south American countries. Corn is definitely a staple food for most of the countries, but it's prepared in different ways.

In USA, where fast food is so popular, some people still eat real meals where the main dish is meat, a sidedish of vegetables and a portion of carbohidrates (rice or potatoes). Hot dogs is an all-American snack, and some dishes are traditional, like turkey for Thanksgiving and smoked ham for Christmas.

I think I'm hungry again...
